An air flow meter sensor measures the mass or volume of air entering an engine or a process line. The most common automotive version is the hot film mass air flow sensor. Many industrial thermal mass flow meters work on the same principle. A heated element loses heat as gas flows across it. Electronics convert that heat loss into a flow signal.


In a car, the engine control unit uses that signal to set fuel injection. In a food and beverage plant, the same signal can control air supply to drying or mixing. Which Solvents and Sprays Are Safe

Do not use brake cleaner. Brake cleaner can leave a chlorinated or aromatic residue that damages the hot film element. Industrial Thermal Mass Flow Meter Cleaning

Industrial thermal mass flow meters are different from passenger car MAF sensors in one key way. The sensor body and electronics can have ATEX Zone 1 or Zone 2 ratings for gas service.
